Think critically and have your own opinions.
Communicate your opinions to others in an easy-to-understand manner.
Accept others' ideas without rejecting or dismissing them out of hand, even if they are different from your own.
Engage in a thorough dialogue so that both parties can understand each other.
Be tolerant of diversity.

Although we know in our minds that all of these things are important, it may be difficult to actually do them.
However, I believe that this kind of "citizenship" is required for citizens to "live proactively with others" in today's global and diverse society.
Therefore, in this lecture and workshop, we will return to the starting point, reconfirm why critical thinking, dialogue, and tolerance for diversity are important, and provide a time and place to put them into practice as "your own thing. We hope that this opportunity will help you to look at the "citizenship" within you and nurture it. (Professor Yoshinao Najima, University of the Ryukyus)

10:00-12:00 Seminar
What should we focus on in order to nurture citizenship in a democratic way? In this lecture, we will look for hints from German "political education (democratic citizenship education)".
The first half of the lecture will begin with a brief review of its philosophy, followed by a discussion of the key words and key elements embedded in that philosophy.
In the second half of the lecture, we will look at pictures of school education in Germany and see how the philosophy of political education is connected to practice.
Through the above, we will provide an opportunity for "each and every one of us to think" about what we can do in our own activities.

13:00-14:00 Workshop
First, participants will reflect on their experiences of "wanting to express an opinion but not being able to," and consider why they were unable to do so. Then, the participants will share their experiences with the group and think about what is necessary to create an environment in which they can say what they want to say.
Next, participants will share examples of "problems in daily life" and think about how to solve some of them through "dialogue.
Through the above activities, we aim to enrich the "plurality" within ourselves and "become tolerant of diversity" by taking a "critical attitude" toward social events as "our own business," having our own opinions, and "conversing" with the various "different opinions" of others.
